On June 19, 2023, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, officially announced the appointment of Rana Taha from Jordan as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Tunisia. This appointment has been made with the approval of the host government, marking a significant step in fostering collaboration between the UN and Tunisia.
Experience and Background
Rana Taha brings over two decades of varied experience within the UN system, serving across several agencies, funds, and programs, as well as participating in peacekeeping and special political missions. Before taking on her new role in Tunisia, Ms. Taha was a team leader and senior peace and development advisor for the UN in Kenya. Her extensive background includes positions at UN headquarters from 2015 to 2019, where she managed the Middle East and North Africa regional program for peace operations and special political missions.
Notable Roles and Education
Throughout her career, Ms. Taha has contributed to several UN missions in Lebanon and Sudan, serving as a special assistant and advisor to multiple representatives of the Secretary-General. From 2003 to 2007, she worked as the representative for Interpeace and held the position of program manager at the UN Office for Project Services in the occupied Palestinian territories. Additionally, her academic credentials include a Master’s degree in International Relations and Public Policy from McMaster University, alongside a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Jordan. Ms. Taha is married and has one son, completing her profile as a dedicated professional and family-oriented individual.
