The opening ceremony of the T20 Cricket 2024 by the Austrian Cricket Association was held on May 1 at 12:30 pm at the Seabarn Cricket Ground. The event witnessed the presence of esteemed guests, including the Ambassador of Pakistan, Aftab Ahmad Khokhar, and ambassadors from various countries such as Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and the Consul of the Embassy of India. The ceremony was also attended by a large number of Pakistani and international communities.
Presence of Dignitaries and Cricket Teams
Players from cricket teams representing different countries graced the occasion with their presence. Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokhar and other ambassadors extended their support and encouragement to the players. They personally visited the ground and interacted with the players. In his special statement, Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokhar emphasized the importance of promoting cricket in Austria to strengthen the existing friendly relations between the people of Pakistan and Austria. He highlighted the role of the Austrian government, sports organizations, and journalists’ organizations in restoring the dignity of cricket in Austria.
Ambassador Aftab Ahmed stated that Pakistan is a peaceful country when it comes to sports. He emphasized that players are the ambassadors of peace and the pride of the nation. He also acknowledged the immense talent among Pakistanis in cricket sports in Asia.
The ambassadors of different countries expressed their support for the Austrian Cricket Association and assured that the doors of their embassies are always open for the players. The presence of these dignitaries further highlighted the significance of the event.
Introduction of the Austrian National Cricket Team
During the opening ceremony, the official cake was cut, and the national anthem of Austria was played. The ambassadors of various embassies were formally introduced to the national cricket team of Austria. The team is a men’s team representing the Republic of Austria in international cricket. It is organized by the Austrian Cricket Association, which became an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1992 and an associate member in 2017. Since then, the team has regularly participated in European Cricket Council tournaments, mostly in the lower divisions, and engaged in bilateral series against other European countries.
